Youth Ocean Summit

At GET OUT, we firmly believe that the Youth Ocean Summit is a vital initiative for fostering genuine engagement among young people. In our rapidly changing world, empowering youth to connect with nature and grasp the significance of environmental stewardship has never been more crucial. We are proud to have partnered with Plastic Free North Devon in our inaugural Summit in September 2024 to provide a platform that amplifies young voices, allowing them to share their ideas, challenges, and innovative solutions for engaging with the natural world.

By facilitating open dialogue and collaboration, we can nurture a generation that is not only more attuned to their environment but also deeply passionate about protecting it. Our commitment at GET OUT focuses on ensuring that young people have the necessary opportunities and resources to thrive in nature, ultimately building a sustainable future for everyone.

Summit Mission & Objectives

We understand the essential need for “meaningful engagement” rather than mere “surface-level engagement” in achieving our charity's core mission. Our primary objectives include:

1. Increasing Access: We aim to enhance opportunities for young individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds in urban areas who currently lack access to green and blue spaces.

2. Improving Well-Being: By fostering a stronger connection to nature, we seek to address the negative impacts that limited access to nature can have on mental and physical health.

3. Inspiring Future Leaders: We recognize that today’s youth are increasingly disconnected from the natural world and less involved in its protection. We are dedicated to inspiring the next generation of environmental leaders.

The difference between meaningful and surface-level engagement lies in providing young people with the opportunities, space, and support needed to transform potential into action. Passive audience participation without meaningful interaction often stifles creativity and expression.

Goals of the Summit

During the Youth Ocean Summit, we aim to advance our objectives by:

- Engaging in Nature: Educating attendees about the importance of the natural environment and the need for its protection.

- Promoting Exploration: Encouraging young people to explore and enjoy the beauty of nature.

- Enhancing Well-Being: Helping students understand how their mental and physical health can benefit from a stronger connection to nature, highlighting that natural spaces are accessible even in urban settings.

- Building Community: Creating opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds to share their stories and experiences, thus enhancing communal bonds.

- Facilitating Discussions: Encouraging conversations about environmental issues and potential solutions among peers.
